Summer Practice!
As we fast approach the summer months, we know that your family schedule will likely shift. We tell our students that regular practice is important, even when band is not in session. That doesn’t mean practice every single day is required, however the more your child plays over the summer, the easier it will be to jump back into band in the fall!
Purchase a book of solos or duets of fun music for your child’s instrument. Summer is a great time to play music for fun - whether that is Disney music, pop music, soundtracks, or hymns from church, it is always great to learn music for fun!
Ask your child to compose some music for their instrument. Whether they are composing their own warm up, an 8 measure melody, or a duet, writing music can be a fun way to continue motivation through the summer months.
Attend a community band or other live music concert outside. There are many outdoor concerts in Minnesota in the summer months, and attending concerts to hear music can be a great way to maintain motivation.
Encourage your child to practice outside! A change in practice location can be so fun!
Schedule a time with a band friend to get together to play duets. There are options in the lesson books, or you can find some free options HERE.
Regular practice makes a big difference any time of the year, but summer practice is a great opportunity to try something unique and new!
